A local guide to spoiling your Dad and celebrating Father's Day in Westville

As Billy Graham once said, "A good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society." So if you are looking for inspiration on how to show your appreciation and spend some quality time with your Dad this Sunday, Shelley Explorer has put together a brief guide to spoiling your Dad and celebrating Father's Day in Westville.

Up and at 'em!
Winter mornings in June can be chilly at best, but we suggest getting an early start with a 6 am Cappuccino or Espresso from Lineage Coffee on Church Road to get you warmed up. Then make your way across the street for a tasty breakfast at one of Westville's quaint coffee shops. Cafe Mayfair, situated at the Westville Junction, is a vibey cafe with a bespoke feel. For the more health-conscious dads, delicious gluten and dairy-free options are available, as well as vegan smoothies and the freshest of free-range eggs.

Talkhouse Cafe at the Westville Mall is always a firm favourite amongst locals and you can meet Dad for brekkie after a gym session at Virgin Active or a quick shop around the mall's retail and speciality stores.

Get moving at midday
The Palmiet Nature Reserve will be open as usual for a leisurely meander along the trails, bird watching and spending quality time together in nature. You can also pack a picnic for Dad and enjoy a wholesome lunch while enjoying the beautiful scenery and breathtaking views.

For the motoring enthusiasts, The Pavilion Shopping Centre will be hosting an exclusive automotive event on Father's Day weekend. A State of Stance will showcase some of the world's best-modified cars, custom hot rods and high-powered vehicles. International burnout star Didi Bizzarro will be exhibiting his skills behind the wheel for the first time ever in South Africa, along with other talented performers from the Red Bull Car Park Drift Champions and SA's "Queen of Smoke" spinning legend Stacey-Lee May. Tickets are available at a discounted price on Sunday and the event runs from 9 am until 8 pm.

After a full day of activities, Dad will undoubtedly be looking forward to some well-deserved pampering. Barberz and Bladez, in The Pavilion Shopping Centre, is one of KwaZulu-Natal's top grooming salons for men and offers professional barber services. Treat your dad to an indulgent cut, trim or shave that will have him feeling his confident best for the evening spoils to come.

Ease into the evening
With a full day of entertainment and experiences to reminisce on, end your day with an ice-cold pint of draught beer and a gourmet burger at Waxy O'Connors on Jan Hofmeyr Road - Westville's traditional Irish pub. Alternatively, enjoy an authentically Italian dinner at Lupa Osteria Westville and sip some of the finest wines on selection while feasting on fresh handmade pasta and pizzas. The vibe is chilled on Sunday evenings, but generally very popular so bookings are essential.

Happy Father's Day
Westville is a diverse, family-oriented community that enjoys a long list of leisure activities and plenty for Dad to enjoy at the drop of a hat. We hope this brief guide inspires a jam-packed Father's Day that can be enjoyed close to home. Shelley Residential wishes all Dads, new and seasoned, a very special and happy Father's Day with your loved ones. May it be filled with appreciation for all you do within your homes and our community.
